What is Yoga and how does it work?
Yogo is a Budhust discipline originating in India and includes physical and mental exercise that help practitioners to better control their physical and mental selves. Yoga is however a broad discipline with many different strands and traditions. The major branches of Yoga include Raja Yogo, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoka and Hatha Yoga.
Yoga has become increasingly popular although this has tended to focus on the physical benefits of Yoga, through the practice of physical postures and poses referred to Asana. Asana is however only one of the eight “limbs” of yoga with the others being primarily concerned with mental and spiritual well being.
Over time, practitioners of Yoga develop balance in the body through working on flexibility and strength. Each pose or posture has its own benefits and are done quickly or slowly depending on what benefits are wanting to be derived.
Yoga is increasingly popular amongst those who have suffered back problems and pregnant women as a way of maintaining flexibility and strength and will no doubt continue to increase in popularity in the future.
